Bernadette in the Hospital
Last Wednesday, we noticed Bernadette's face was swollen. We took her to the doctor, who thought it might be an allergic reaction or possibly a virus. We gave Benadryl, but the next day it was worse. Friday morning she looked even more swollen and her face and neck had some loose, splitting skin. We took her to the doctor first thing and she was also tachycardic. He sent us to the hospital where the ER ran some very uncomfortable tests and she looked worse and worse. They admitted her and gave IV antibiotics.
Then the doctor told us they thought she had staph. scalded skin syndrome. She'd need antibiotics for the next couple days, and for her swab to grow so they could test it. She was very pathetic Friday evening, not wanting to nurse or move her face at all because it hurt. I doubt future Bernadette wants me to post a lot of pictures, but here's one. She's not wearing clothes because her arm was strapped to a board so she didn't pull out the iv port. After she knocked it off, they left it off, and she was happier.
Saturday she stopped getting worse but she was still
not better. They told us it isn't mrsa, which is great news, and she had iv antibiotics and pain meds every few hours. Sunday, she was still fighting eating early in the day, but by evening she was smiling and acting more like herself. The swab confirmed staph, but the next step was to put her bacteria on several kinds of antibiotics and give her the one the kills her bacteria best. That came back on Monday morning, they switched her to oral antibiotics, and she got to go home! I stayed with her the whole time and grandma and dad visited a few times but held down the fort at home.

Fishing
We went for a quick fishing trip near our house. The closest part was too shallow, so we waded out to....the most beautiful place to fish in the world? We didn't stay long but everyone had fun.
Here's where I changed my angle and was stunned by the view.

Isi walked past where her boots covered and was drenched. Justin turned her upside down to get the water out of her boots. But when asked, "Me not wet." She didn't want to have to miss out, even though a single drop of milk will have her removing her clothes at breakfast.
Bernadette came too! She wouldn't look this way because it was bright, but here's her sweet head.
